DC-10 Farewell tour was a passion project for the principle owner of IS405 Productions. As a huge fan of commercial aviation, he approached Biman Bangladesh with a request to capture the final flight to the museum S2-ACR was to be donated. This was the last passenger DC-10 in operation, and the end was now determined. What started out as an ‘ultimate cockpit video’ for the last flight turned into a substantially larger project.
The Managing Director and CEO of Biman Bangladesh asked if we could record all the enthusiast flights out of Birmingham, England prior to the final retirement, and produce a video available to everyone. Armed with 22 cameras, 4 of which were 3-D stereoscopic capable, IS405 recorded over 200 hours of footage from the day the DC-10 arrived until the final flight. The production was a 97 minute documentary that featured the history of the aircraft, along with video from all nine scenic passenger flights. This included the final landing in Bangladesh where the aircraft was decommissioned.
In addition, a second disc called the “Virtual Cockpit” was included allowing the viewer to virtually sit in the cockpit during a handful of take-off and landing sorties. While watching the viewer could change the camera perspective at anytime during the video (with up to 7 camera perspectives offered) using their remote control. This was offered on both DVD and Blu-Ray, and the Blu-Ray version included a companion disc with select footage presented in 3-D with 3-D capable televisions.
